Microchipping your pet is an important consideration for all pet owners. If your pet is ever lost, having a microchip implanted can significantly increase the chances of him or her being returned home.

How does microchipping work?
A microchip is inserted under the skin between the shoulder blades of the pet where it will serve as a permanent ID for the pet. The chip emits a low radio frequency that will be picked up by a microchip scanner. Any shelter or veterinary clinic should have a scanner on hand in case someone brings in a found pet.
The procedure is quick, easy, and similar to a vaccination in how it is administered. This procedure can easily be done while the animal is awake.

What is Check the Chip Day?
August 15th has been established by the AVMA and AAHA as ‘Check the Chip Day‘. This day serves as a reminder for all pet owners to take a moment and verify their pets’ microchip registration information. Owner contact information must be kept current with the microchip company. Otherwise, if a lost pet is scanned and found to have a microchip, the owner cannot be contacted if the information is no longer valid. So go ahead – verify your contact information with your microchip company today!
